NSLU2 and OWFS

Synopsis
NSLU2
Hardware
IPK packages
  • Synopsis:

Linksys makes a marvelous Network Storage Link for USB 2.0 Disks, the NSLU2. It runs embedded linux, and the source is freely available. Basically, each NSLU2 can act as a high-speed, intelligent 1-wire controller. Here's how!
  • Hardware

    • USB ports

The NSLU2 have two USB-ports. You should get a DS9490 1-wire adapter to connect your 1-wire devices. See the adapter list.

  • IPK packages with OWFS to Unslung 6.8 distribution

NOTE: These packages require you to have Unslung 6.8 installed on your NSLU2.

    1. Login to your router add my repository http://owfs.sourceforge.net/nslu2/packages/ to your /etc/ipkg/ directory. You can copy the file owfs-feed.conf to /etc/ipkg/
    2. Update the ipkg repository and install the packages
      ipkg update
      ipkg install owfs
(Note: kmod-fuse, libfuse, fuse-utils, owlib will also be installed due to dependencies)
    3. Try starting owfs manually:
      run-owfs
(Default settings for the scripts could be changed in /opt/etc/owfs/*)
    4. Visit http://192.168.0.77:3001/
    5. To upgrade all installed packages to the latest version, just run the commands:
      ipkg update
      ipkg upgrade
    6. Since there are startup-scripts for all applications, you should be able to reboot your router and have owfs automatically restarted.
